Countdown to the Petit LeMans
Special thanks to United BMW and 2011 champions BMW Team RLL for a great pre-Petit event tonight.  Mingling with the crowd I ran into three of my old 24 Hours of LeMons teammates and even a certain Mike Burroughs with his StanceWorks E9.  This is shaping up to be an awesome week.

Cars that keep me skimming the classifieds:BMW M3 (E46), from $12,000
With 333 horsepower on tap, the third-generation BMW M3 made 104 hp/liter on the way to an 8000 rpm redline. Though larger, heavier and more refined than its predecessors, the E46 M3 was much faster—hitting 60 mph in under five seconds and running the quarter mile in the low 13’s.  An exceptionally comfortable and capable street car, it is just as at home smoking its brakes and tires around a race track.  While not cheap to maintain or insure, this is one hell of a car for the money.  (Photo Tom Daem, via motoriginal)

Uggh, Winter

December is here in force, bringing freezing tempertures with it.  My turbo Miata went into the garage a few weeks ago - my winter beater is an old BMW M3.

Every time I start daydreaming too much about a new car, my wife reminds me that I’ve got it pretty good already… then I remind her that both of my cars together cost us 2/3 of what hers did ;)

“The ALMS M3 is perfection – everything is right on target. It has the perfect balance of power, braking and handling. Everything just feels in perfect proportion. It’s almost like they made a work of art and then decided to turn it into a race car. You just want so badly to do a good job and do what the car is capable of.” — BMW factory driver Bill Auberlen (via motomania)
